Willie Harbinson, B.A., B.Arch, RIBA, Partner
Willie joined Percy Thomas Partnership after completing his Architectural degree at the University of Bristol and remained with the firm for 30 years. He became an associate in 1986 and a Projects Director in 2003 and led the Housing Sector within the firm. In the early part of his career he worked on a number of small and medium sized projects, taking them from inception to completion. He was instrumental in setting up the firms Quality Assurance system where his all round experience came to the fore. Housing is his main specialisation and he has carried out a large number of projects in this field in both the public and private sectors. His housing at Luccombe for the West Somerset Rural Housing Association won the National Building in the Countryside Award in 1992 which led to Percy Thomas Partnership being appointed for the first phase of Poundbury. Willie's later experience encompasses larger and more complex projects including new headquarters for Skipton Building Society and Wishaw General Hospital, both of which he led from inception to completion. His interest in old buildings and the study of site context is reflected in a concern to make new buildings fit into and relate to their surroundings. This is particularly evident in the new housing in Wotton-under-Edge which won a design award from the local council and the project near Wrexham from the National Trust. He has set up a financial control and project monitoring system for ESHA along with a Quality Assurance scheme.
His current work includes a number of buildings for the National Society for Epilepsy, replacement of the missing wing to a 17th century almshouse and a dwelling pattern book for Sherford, a proposed new town near Plymouth.
