Neil Embleton, B.A., B.Arch, RIBA, Partner
Neil qualified as an architect in 1979 and joined Percy Thomas Partnership from Bruges Tozer in 1983 and became an Associate in 2001. He was taken on originally as the design architect for the Pyramids Hospital and visited Cairo to gain first-hand experience of local techniques and materials. Neil has experience of many building types including laboratories and schools, but housing is his main specialisation and he has carried out a large number of projects in this field particularly in the public sector. In the 1990's he was responsible for two award winning remodellings of existing buildings, Kingsley House and Orlebar Gardens, for Bristol City Council. He was also involved in The Prince of Wales' Poundbury development and has designed a 257 house development for the Ministry of Defence at Middle Wallop. In 1991 he carried out much of the constructional design for the award winning Swanlea Secondary School in London. His New Synthetic Chemistry laboratory building on the skyline of Bristol, for the University, was completed in late 1999 and in 2001 he designed the contemporary apartments and townhouses at Malvern House in Redland for Edward Ware Homes. He won an RIBA Housing Design Award in 2004 for a development for Westbury Homes in the heart of the Cotswold village of Ebrington. He is currently designing a new public library in Bishopston, an infill scheme of 36 flats and the conversion of a listed public swimming pool into a health centre for Chatsworth Homes and Bristol City Council, as well as a mixed use urban block in Yeovil for ZeroC (formerly Cornhill Estates). Neil is an all round architect with a high level of skill and experience, not only in conceptual design, but also in constructional design and site inspection. His special skill and hobby of sketching and watercolour painting is key to demonstrating how ESHA's designs sit harmoniously within their surroundings.
