Part of the Town Hall site project at Tiverton for Russell Harrison Plc is the restoration and conversion of 3 - 10 St Andrew Street and 1 and 2 Ham Place. St Andrew Street runs south from the Town Hall along the top of the hill overlooking the River Exe to the west, and Ham Place is a narrow alley running steeply down the hill towards the river. Nos. 1/2 St Andrew Street, which are a modern replacement immediately adjacent to the Town Hall, are to be demolished to allow access to the planned development, but the remaining buildings which are now derelict are to become a mixture of open market and affordable houses and flats. St Andrew Street, which extends well beyond No. 10, is in a Conservation Area and contains a number of very old houses, many of which are listed. On our site the listed houses are Nos. 9 and 10 (previously the Star Inn). The architectural quality of the street is good, so the proposed works involve little more than repairs, removing poor quality rear extensions, adapting partitions and stairs to modern use, and restoring traditional style windows and front doors, most of which have been replaced by ugly modern versions.
