The Shutterton Bridge Project is a masterplan for an urban extension to the northern edge of Dawlish in South Devon, covering 24 hectares including an area of land which has planning consent for employment uses. Our scheme for the first phase is for a truly mixed use community which includes offices, rural workshops, local foodstore, pub and mixed tenure housing. Detailed proposals have been prepared for the first 10 hectare phase and will shortly be submitted for planning approval which will challenge the local authority's allocations in their draft local plan. The proposed architectural treatment draws heavily on the Devon vernacular with a paved village square the centrepiece of the village. We led a multidiscipline team on this project and reported directly to our developer client, Black Country Properties Ltd.

Once planning permission is received, our scope of work will include preparation of detail design and working drawings for a number of buildings on the site. The first of these is the local foodstore for Somerfield Stores - gross floor area 1,800 m2
