A new 20-bed care home for the National Society for Epilepsy (NSE) at Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire. Russell House is part of a wider programme to renew buildings and replace existing accommodation that is below new minimum standards promulgated by the Care Standards Act 2000. Designed initially by John Kettlewell, the building is 2-storey with 5-bed flats in two residential blocks linked to a central admin core. The residential blocks are perceived as separate 'pavilions' which are sympathetic to and in keeping with the domestic villa-like buildings found throughout the NSE site. Within each flat individual bedrooms have an en-suite and walk-in store and residents share a living room and kitchen/diner in addition to an assisted bathroom and office/nurse base. External walls are brickwork with tile hanging and render on the first floor. Plain tiled roofs incorporate thermal solar panels in discreet locations.
