Kato Drys is a planned satellite town of about 12,000 people just outside Bucharest. The masterplan is closely based on the urban design principles established at Poundbury in West Dorset, but just as Poundbury reflects the traditional architecture of Dorset, so Kato Drys will reflect the Romanian vernacular. Like Poundbury, and unlike most modern development, Kato Drys mixes both different uses and social classes and is relatively high density so that its townspeople are within five minutes walking distance of all their daily needs including shops, work places, schools and parkland.
