Inns Court is a unique estate of 500 houses built in the 1970's to the Radburn principle of segregating cars and pedestrians. We were commissioned in March 1994 to carry out a Feasibility Study to investigate the relationship between crime and the layout pattern and the possibilities to improve amenity and security by adding more houses to the estate. The residents were involved in the study through the project team via a social survey and a series of public meetings. A report was produced setting out costed recommendations to improve security on the estate, the houses, the external environment and in particular the local centre, which at first was proposed to be upgraded, but later had to be rebuilt as a result of excessive vandalism.
