The site was originally that occupied by the Victorian Hammersmith Town Hall on Shepherds Bush Road very close to Hammersmith Broadway, and was left vacant for some years. Our design departs from the Modernist style and instead reflects the Victorian character of its immediate neighbours, as well as the client's request for a building of traditional dignity. Planned on four floors, it enjoys all modern amenities such as full air conditioning and raised floors for computer wiring, but with traditional Italianate proportions and details both inside and out. The ground floor is recessed behind railings and a row of columns, and the 'area' so created ventilates the basement parking space. A round archway and coffered vault dramatises the entrance. Materials are the red brick and Portland stone which characterise the immediate surroundings.
