This is a development of eight affordable houses for the Longhurst Group on land owned by the Earl of Yarborough at the edge of a North Lincolnshire village. The houses have been planned in a simple terrace at right angles to the road into the village so that they avoid affecting the mature trees on the site and face south towards an existing pond. The four one and a half storey houses for the elderly (the client agreed to our suggestion that the second bedroom should be planned in the roofspace) are framed on both sides by four two-storey two and three bedroom houses for families. The architecture generally follows the local vernacular with brick walls and pantiled roofs, but the porches and gable windows of the end houses use an eighteenth century 'Gothik' motif also found locally. As an affordable development the project must comply with Level 3 of the 'Code for Sustainable Homes'. The scheme has been carefully planned to allow for future extension if required.
