This is a rare commission to reinstate a missing piece of one of our most beautiful English market towns. The half hectare site fronts onto the ancient trackway of Corve Street, heading north out of Ludlow. Numbers 23 and 24 were demolished in the 1970's to make way for the Corve Street Garage which was itself demolished in 2003. Our scheme proposes the partial infill of the gap with shops and flats on the upper levels, in the Georgian style with diminishing rear extensions, in the local tradition, creating a new lane leading through to a cobbled square. Beyond the square, at the rear of the site, is a calm almost monastic courtyard of houses, flats and workshops, some with solar conservatories and others overlooking the churchyard of St Leonard's Chapel. This is an opportunity to establish a new mixed-use urban quarter to complement and reinforce the town pattern and the local economy of Ludlow.
