The General Office was built in 1915 to represent the wealth and aspirations of the Ebbw Vale Iron and Steel Company at the peak of its prosperity. The building has stood empty since Corus closed the steelworks in 2002 and is deteriorating rapidly. The immediate need is to replace the roof and to get the building back into use as quickly as possible. The longterm aim is to extend the building along its west side to provide a more considered frontage onto the new Station Square and to consolidate the General Office into the landmark building at the heart of the new Ebbw Vale Masterplan.
